Oulun Energia Sähköverkko Oy will continue replacing electricity meters with a new generation of smart meters starting from May 2026. The large-scale meter replacement programme is progressing as planned and will continue intensively until the end of 2028.
The meter replacements are carried out in cooperation between Oulun Energia Sähköverkko Oy and Landis+Gyr Oy. The practical installation work is performed by Eltel Networks Oy, a subcontractor of Landis+Gyr.
Customers will be informed personally in advance
Customers whose electricity meter is due for replacement will be notified of the installation date in advance. Eltel will send customers a letter detailing the proposed replacement date and providing instructions on how to reschedule the appointment if necessary. In apartment buildings and terraced houses, customers will also receive text message notifications when the replacement work begins.
Replacing an electricity meter takes approximately 10–15 minutes. In apartment buildings and terraced houses, customers are usually not required to be present during the replacement, as the meters are typically located in shared facilities of the housing company.
Check your replacement schedule in the OE Digital Service
Customers can also check the indicative replacement schedule for their electricity meter in advance via the OE Digital Service: Sites and consumption data → Site details (tab) → Preliminary meter replacement date.
The information shown in the digital service is based on the regional replacement schedule and helps customers anticipate when their meter replacement is expected to take place.
When planning the meter replacement schedule, the annual number of meters due for replacement and their regional distribution have been taken into account. Based on this information, the final large-scale replacement packages for each year have been defined to ensure the project progresses as efficiently as possible.

The replacement of electricity meters is based on a new government decree on electricity metering and enables the transition to modern, intelligent metering. The new smart meters provide more detailed electricity consumption data in 15-minute intervals and enable near real-time monitoring of consumption through additional services.
