Repairs to the Merikoski hydropower plant’s lamella dam will begin in late winter 2026 and continue into 2027
Oulun Energia will commence repair work on the lamella dam at the Merikoski hydropower plant. During 2026 and 2027, the entire lamella dam—from the power plant to the dam bridge—will be refurbished. The main contractor for the project is VRJ Etelä-Suomi Oy. The work may cause occasional noise and increased traffic in the Toivoniemi area.
The refurbishment of the lamella dam is part of Merikoski hydropower plant’s long-term maintenance plan, which aims to ensure the facility’s operational reliability and safe functioning now and in the future. The plant’s concrete structures are approximately 75–80 years old, and they are being repaired in phases based on condition assessments. Previously, the dam bridge’s concrete structures, the lower channel’s retaining walls, and the waterway concrete structures of one turbine have already been refurbished.
At the lamella dam construction site, access roads are currently being built, and the actual repair work on the dam structure will begin shortly.
