Night load management and HAN port activation
Night load management and HAN port help you use electricity more intelligently. With night load management, you can shift the heating of storage electric heating and domestic hot water to night-time hours, while the HAN port allows you to access near real-time data from your electricity meter for your own use. Both services are free of charge for our customers.
Adjust night load management to suit your electricity use
Oulun Energia Sähköverkko Oy offers customers using the Time-of-use product the opportunity to change the default control settings for night loads. The service is particularly beneficial for our customers who have a spot-price electricity contract and use storage electric heating, and who want to shift their consumption to cheaper night-time hours.
Customers’ night load management normally switches on during the hour starting at 22:00, with a random delay, and remains on until 07:00. We offer our customers an alternative in which night load management switches on only at 01:00 and remains on until 07:00.
We recommend checking how your current electricity consumption is distributed across the night-time hours and then considering whether shifting the control period by three hours would be more beneficial or more inconvenient for you and your property. For example, it is worth considering whether there will be enough hot water if night load management is switched on for a shorter period.

Please note that the service can only be used by customers with the Time-of-use product who already have an electricity meter installed that includes a load control relay, as well as the required electrical load control connections.
The HAN port helps you monitor electricity consumption almost in real time
The HAN port is a home automation interface found in new-generation electricity meters. Through it, you can read measurement data from your electricity meter for your own use almost in real time, for example for monitoring energy consumption, home automation or controlling electric vehicle charging.
HAN stands for Home Area Network. In Oulun Energia Sähköverkko Oy’s new Landis+Gyr E360 electricity meters, the customer interface is also referred to as the P1/HAN/CII interface.
Benefits of the HAN port
The HAN port can be particularly useful if you want to monitor your electricity consumption in more detail than is possible from your bill or the measurement data in OE Digipalvelu. It may be suitable for you, for example, if:
- you use spot-price electricity and want to shift consumption to cheaper hours
- you have an electric vehicle and a smart charging device
- your home has electric heating or storage heating
- you have solar panels
- you use a home automation system
- you want to better understand where your household electricity consumption comes from

Order night load management or HAN port activation
You can start using night load management or activate the HAN port by completing the accompanying form. The services will be activated within approximately one week. We will confirm by email once the service you requested has been switched on. If automatic connection is not possible and the current meter needs to be replaced, it may take longer to introduce the services. Both services are free of charge for our customers.
