Power plants

The foundation of our energy production is formed by our power stations, which produce Northern Power backed by our 126 years of solid experience. Owning energy production facilities guarantees our capacity to supply affordable and sustainably produced electricity and heat. It also provides jobs and creates a safe environment to the people and the companies of our region.

In addition to our own energy production we are partners in co-owned production companies and purchase electricity from the Nordic electricity pool. We also purchase peak and reserve district heating capacity from the local industry. To meet consumption peaks in situations such as very cold winter days we also have auxiliary heating plants in different parts of the city.

Toppilan voimalaitos

Toppila power plant

Our CHP plant in Toppila produces approximately 40% of our electricity and over 80% of our district heat on the annual level. The power plant consists of two power plant units.
Merikosken voimalaitos

Merikoski hydro power plant

The crown jewel of our energy production is the old Merikoski hydro-electric power plant, which has produced green electricity in downtown Oulu since 1948.
Laanilan ekovoimalaitos

Laanila eco power plant

The Laanila eco power plant turns waste into electricity and heat, diversifies our production structure and reduces the amount of landfill waste and gas emissions.
Tuulimylly

Wind power plants

We participate in the production of renewable and environmentally friendly wind power as a shareholder in EPV Energia Oy.

Peak and reserve capacity

We secure sufficient power production capacity by obtaining peak and reserve capacity from the local industry and generating reserve power in our own auxiliary heating plants.
