Locally and regionally supplied energy

Over 90% of the fuel we use to generate electricity and district heat come from within one hundred kilometres from Oulu. Most of the wood, peat, waste and biogas we need comes from the region. Approximately half of the waste turned to energy at our eco power plant comes from the local operator Kiertokaari, and the remainder from other sources in Northern and Eastern Finland.

Our emphasis on local and regional energy is a form of social responsibility. Calculated as jobs, production of local energy provides employment for approximately 1,500 people and generates an income stream of nearly €50 million.

As our fuel supply chain has no multinational corporations involved, the profit is channelled back to the region. We prefer energy wood produced according to the principles of sustainable forestry. We also make sure the entire supply chain is sustainable and complies with the requirements.
